"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."
- Native American Proverb
Our next generation, their children, their grand children and so on are the real possessors of the mother earth. We are mere guardians of it and just have the responsibility to safe guard the mother earth and pass it over to the coming generations. But due to the folly of our near sightedness, we have over indulged in the industrial revolution without considering the serious consequences in the last 200 years. For 200 years weve been conquering Nature. Now were beating it to death.
We are just now starting to witness the skeletons of our past. They are coming up from the graves en masse to haunt us. Today the talk of environmentalists and scientists world over is, about the increase of carbon content in the atmosphere due to the excessive use of fossil fuels. The situation has become serious and various studies by world bodies and reputed environmental institutions have only confirmed the catastrophe waiting at our door steps.
According to Mr. Al Gore, a great Environmentalist, within ten years the planet will become unlivable.
We all have equal responsibilities to save our mother earth. This realisation has become the cause for the starting up of the organisation.
<<Organisation Name>> was started in the year <year> with the mission of spreading the awareness about the environmental protection among the city dwellers and the rural people to fight against the environmental degradation and to find ways and means for our safe and secured survival.
Environmental damage like the chemicals polluting the water bodies and thereby affecting the agricultural activity is directly affecting the livelihoods of millions of the poor and marginalised people. There are other serious issues too like
- the air pollution
- noise pollution
- global warming
- incursion of sea water into the water table
- de-forestation
- converting the agricultural lands into residential colonies
- increased in the production and the usage of the non-bio degradable materials like plastics, polythene etc
The organisation has been working to overcome the above said issues in a calculated manner. So many people from different walks of life are supporting our activities. The institution has grown into a big banyan tree where all the activities are oriented towards the curtailment of the environmental degradation in and around <xyz> location.
The Vision
Our vision is to help overcome the issues related to the environmental damage. By curtailing the environmental degradation the organisation believes that it will help save the mother earth and secure the lives of millions of the poor people. The organisation envisions being the voice of the oppressed people who are affected by the environmental degradation either directly or indirectly.
The Mission
- To provide the environmental education to the school children by including the environmental issues in their school curriculum and in the extra curricular activities.
- To develop the attitude which have the positive concern for the environment and help to maintain environmental quality, by introducing the practical approaches.
- To make the environmental degrading factors into the most prominent issues by disseminating the knowledge among the general population
- To provide the alternative livelihoods for the people who have been the cause for the environmental damage
- To tie up with the governmental and the private donor agencies for the effective implementation of the environmental related laws and the regulations in the given locality
The Story of the <<Organisation Name>>
"I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority."
-Elwyn Brooks White,Essays of E.B. White, 1977
<<Organisation Name>> was the result of the dream of a dynamic young man. The young man is none other than <xyz> (name of the person). He was the post graduate degree holder in the environmental science. He was the locally grown up person. He had a dream to eradicate the environmental damaging factors such as air, water and land pollution, usage of non-biodegradable products and the deforestation etc.
So single handedly he started the organisation in the year <xyz>. The institution was started with the primary motive of helping the cities and the villages to have the clean and green environment.
Slowly one after the other, the institution has added good number of activities to drive home the message of the environmental protection. It was this vision which manifested into the various institutions. Every time a difficult situation arose concerning the environmental issue within the locality, it was addressed through a locally available resource. This initiative was then strengthened and institutionalized.
The magnitude of the problem is enormous. Now thanks to the globalization, the consumerist culture has become popular. With the mindless consumer culture our poor mother earth is bearing the brunt of all the non bio - degradable polymer waste.
Now the institution is having the plethora of projects which have started yielding fruits.
The institution has won many prestigious awards including <xyz>, <yzx> and <zyx> awards.
We feel proud that the institution has been instrumental in bringing up the smile on the face of the worried rural folks who have lost livelihood in the past due to the chemical pollutants spoiling their agricultural land and the water resource.
Due to the advocacy campaigns, the government machinery is viewing the conditions of the poor and marginalised people who have been affected by various polluting factors with sympathy and kindness. This attitudinal change of the society towards the deprived lot is paramount in our achievements. We are happy that we are able to affect the lives of the downtrodden in a positive manner.
The society at large is getting enormous benefits from our campaigns. Now in the operational areas where we work, the streets and the main roads are having a clean and green look.

Our Activities
Our activities are divided into following segments.
1. Environmental awareness campaigns
- Conducting environmental awareness campaigns for the school children. This includes the extra curricular activities like helping the children to identify the environmental damaging factors around their vicinities, helping them to conduct the exhibitions in their schools with the environment as the main theme, conducting awareness tests and giving away the prizes for the successful students etc.
- Conducting environmental awareness campaigns for the house wives. This includes organizing house parties with the environment as the main theme, conducting awareness tests to the women and giving away the prizes for the successful candidates. Now <xyz> (number) women in the operational area have their own kitchen or terrace garden. They use the vormicomposting method to convert the bio-degradable waste into worthy manure
Conducting environmental awareness campaigns for the industrial units in the operational area. This includes organizing the regular periodical meetings with the industrial unit owners. They will be given the latest laws and the regulations of the environmental protection concerning their industries. Organizing the competitions with the clean and green environment as the theme. Those who are successful in maintaining their industrial premises are honored with the titles and the trophies. Now <xyz> (number) industrial units in the operational area have their own bye lane garden or terrace garden. They use the vormicomposting method to convert the bio-degradable waste into worthy manure
- Conducting exhibitions and the road shows which deal with all the factors of environmental degradation such as noise pollution, air pollution, land and water pollution etc
2. Lobbying with the government agencies
- The organisation has been lobbying with the government for the better laws to protect the environment. There had been cases where the unscrupulous elements damaged the water and the land resource by letting in the untreated effluent waste into the nearby water bodies and the low lying lands. Now we are acting as the watch dog in our operational area.
3. Introducing the implants which use the renewable energy source
- In the operational areas and in the nearby village areas we have been providing the implants which use the renewable energy source such as solar stoves, smoke less stoves, cow dung gas and the human waste gas, cow dung composting, human waste composting, vormicomposting, CFL lamps, small oil extracting units using the man or cattle power in the subsidized prices. This has been a huge success. Many more people are happily using our implants. By this activity itself <xyz> amount of non-renewable energy source is saved every year.
4. Village Industries
- Encouraging the village industries is an effort to make the village self-sufficient. These industries would provide them with the wherewithal to make their own basic needs for a comfortable life. The units manufacture and process a variety of food, clothing and other requirements in an environmentally friendly manner, for the village markets. Today, our Village Industries´ products are the household name in the nearby towns and the cities. These units besides giving steady income to the employees are catering to the needs of the nearby towns and the villages.
- Our institution is one of the pioneers in developing village industrial units in villages. It has over the years created village industries, set-up many industries, has facilitated research and development on specific village products, and continuously trained village entrepreneurs for setting up village units. It has inspired many similar initiatives across the state.
Under the Village Industries initiative we have set up the following industries. It is worth noting that all the products that we manufacture are using the environmentally friendly processes. Mostly we use the renewable energy source like the solar energy, wind energy, wood gas, cow dung gas and human waste gas etc.
- Processed Food Manufacturing Unit
- Paper Bag Manufacturing Unit
- Nature Dye Manufacturing Unit
Success Stories
1. One of our most successful projects has been the <xyz> (location) eco-village project, which has inspired us to initiate similar programmes in other villages.
<xyz> is a village in the <xyz> district. The village has the chronic acute water shortage problem. The village had turned into a barren wasteland due to extensive deforestation. There was a man made lake in the village. It used to be silted from the run off rain water during the rainy seasons.
We with community participation first contoured the hillock and bunded it with locally available rocks and stones. The site was fenced with trees and the pits were mulched to retain moisture. The lake was de-silted. Through out the village green cover was established by way of planting trees. Local women were involved in the establishment of an herbal garden in these lands. They were also trained to plant and manage their own kitchen gardens, vermi-compost their biodegradable waste and construct smokeless earthen stoves.
Today, the village appears green with trees and medicinal plants. The wells have eight feet of water in the hottest and driest summers. It serves as a model village for watershed management and biodiversity conservation.
2. In another <xyz> (name of the village), people were migrating for want of jobs to the nearby cities and the towns. Scanty rainfall; the storage facility of the rain water was inadequate in the village.
We made the intervention in the village. We have been working for the past 6 years in the village. We constructed two water storage tanks in the village and the run off water during the rainy season was made to flow to these storage tanks. On the banks of the tanks huge shady trees were made to grow. So the water loss due to the evaporation has been minimal. The water is available for the near by herbal and the fruit gardens. We gave the saplings and the seeds for the development of these herbal and the fruit gardens. Now the farm laborers are having work through out the year. This has helped curtail the migrating problem to the nearby towns and the cities for the want of jobs.
